"No Soap, Radio" was a psychological ploy born in the late '40s. The idea, if you don't know about it, involved two perpetrators and a victim. One of the perps would tell a joke whose punch line was "No soap, radio" and both perps would laugh hysterically. The victim was bewildered: was this supposed to be funny? What was he missing? Why was he the only one feeling left out of the big yuks?
